Free-Association is the amazingly effective process that enables people to completely and permanently resolve the unconscious causes of their anxiety, depression, eating disorder, phobia or other emotional or psychological problem.
Free Association is one of the most misunderstood of all therapeutic techniques, and yet, when administered correctly, is profoundly effective. The aim of this course is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to practice Free-Association successfully. The therapy, and more importantly, how to practice it, will be described in detail - the majority of the training will consist of listening to, and analysing, pre-recorded therapy sessions. Many different recordings, of various clients, at different stages of the therapeutic process will be studied in order to understand what most helps and hinders the therapeutic process.
Some of the topics discussed will be:
- Why is ‘FA’ so successful, where other interventions fail?
- The many ways that both the client (and therapist) can sabotage therapy
- The effects of denial, dissociation, disavowel and grooming upon therapy
- How to explain FA to your clients, and what to say if they get ‘stuck’
- Learn when to talk, and when to stay quiet. What are the right things to say?
- Understand what ‘true’ or ‘pure’ Free Association REALLY is
- How to help a client to abreact, and to release their bottled-up emotions
- Learn to spot red herrings, and use techniques like ‘automatic writing and drawing’
- Learn why this technique the most natural and holistic of ALL therapies
- How to use ‘clean’ and ‘reflective’ language effectively
- Understand ‘recovered memory’, false-memory, and the law
- Recognise the effects of distorted thinking and ‘normalisation’ on therapy
Rob Kelly FIAPH will present this dynamic and empowering course, which is open to any practicing therapists, or therapists in training. The content of the course will be quite explicit at times, and traumatic events may well be discussed in great depth.
Some comments from previous course attendees:
Attending the recent "The Secrets of Free Association Course" has provided me with an in-depth understanding of what FA means and how to guide a client through the process. The unique live demonstations were superb and as a new student, all my questions regarding this topic were answered. It was presented in a very sensitive and down to earth manner by Rob Kelly, who in my opinion, is an excellent presenter and captures the audience's attention completely throughout the two days.
Anne Costelloe, Pinner - Successful Hypnotherapy Student

I attended the free association seminar hoping that it would help me to get a better understanding of this unique therapy that we in the iaph practice. We were able to listen to tapes, and hear how Rob Kelly gets the best possible results from clients. Also, being a volunteer I was able to experience first hand the way to make sure each client is making clear links to progress with their therapy. I would strongly recommend that any therapist or student hoping to become a therapist go on this amazing two day course, and to get the maximum benefit be a volunteer. Since going to this, my clients have increased, my results with clients have increased, and my confidence as a therapist has also increased.

I've been practicing free association for a long time. Even so, I found the course really worthwhile. Taking some your sessions apart and looking at what you did and why was really helpful. I think what
was really good was that you didn't take the easy clients but the difficualt ones, which is where we all struggle. I don't doubt the course has helped me with my clients and I look forward to attending
a further course.

Whether you are an established practitioner or a "newbie" you need to attend this course. Rob not only produces his usual fantastic handout and of course his usual great presentation and banter but also those attending have the opportunity to see at first hand how Rob carries out his methods of 'Pure' Free Association as he demonstrates on a few unsuspecting members of the audience just how it should be done. By watching at first hand you WILL come away from the Course and change and improve the way you are using and demonstrating Free Association with your Clients. With
the opportunity to ask any questions and have them clinically explained this course is one of the BEST! You cant afford NOT to go on this course.
Greg Coyne - Hypnotherapist
A unique insight into the subtle ways of helping a client through analysis. My success rate at getting clients through therapy in under 10 sessions has more than doubled! No more problems with resistance - the 'brick walls' are demolished before my clients ever know they are there. Understanding the pace and structure of an ideal session has helped me to become a better therapist.
